Whether you’re a Netflix lover or you prefer a cinema trip, here’s 11 brand new films to look out for in 2018.

  1. Annihilation (available now on Netflix)

By now, you’ve probably heard people talk about this weird new film on Netflix called Annihilation and how great it is. But it really is. Natalie Portman is amazing in this mind-boggling, gut-wrenching Sci-Fi horror based on Jeff VanderMeer’s novel of the same title. Complex and thought-provoking stuff.

Why You Should Watch It: If you’re in the mood for a thought provoking film that gives you more than the standard Netflix offering.

  1. Ready Player One (now in UK cinemas)

This feels like it’s going to be somewhere in between Tron and Hunger Games and we like it. Director Steven Spielberg returns with this Sci-Fi action film that is based on Ernest Cline’s best-selling novel of the same name, portraying the future of humanity in the not-so-far away 2045 when VR becomes a way to escape from reality.

Why You Should Watch It: If you’re a fan of fast paced action films and visually-immersive worlds, this is right up your street.

3. Solo: A Star Wars Story (25 th May UK release)

This one is for all you Star Wars fans out there who want to soak up even more and learn more about Han Solo’s story. Plus, it’ll be interesting to see Emilia Clarke go from Khaleesi to Qi’Ra (at least they have the original names in common).

Why You Should Watch It: You’re a Star Wars fan, obvs

  1. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (6 th June UK release)

Is the sequel to Jurassic World going to become a summer blockbuster? Well, It’s true that it’ll never have the impact that the first film did but if dinosaurs are your thing, then you’re bound to enjoy it. It could be contrived and a bit silly but we’ll probably buy a ticket.

Why You Should Watch It: Dinosaurs are being threatened with extinction so there’s the usual mayhem but Jeff Goldblum is revisiting his role as Dr Ian Malcolm so that’s exciting.

  1. Ocean’s 8 (22 nd June UK release)

Can you believe it’s been over 10 years since the last film was released, but we think this female-focused spinoff featuring such an impressive cast will definitely be worth the wait. We’ve seen Danny Ocean in action, now it’s time to meet Debbie. Ocean’s 8 is adding to the new wave of female-centric movies and that’s a good thing.

Why You Should Watch It: Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter and wait for it… Rihanna. What a cast! If you liked Ghostbusters (the girly version) then you might like this. We think it’ll be great fun.

  1. Mission Impossible – Fallout (26 th July UK release)

Admit it, you’re curious about what Tom Cruise is up to in this one. It’s a seemingly never-ending franchise but it’s going to be entertaining.

Why You Should Watch It: The stunts never disappoint. Great if you like action movies.

  1. Christopher Robin (17 th August UK release)

We couldn’t leave a Disney film off this list, and this new take on the classic is supposed to be amazing. The story follows an adult Christopher Robin and combines live action with a CGI animated Winnie the Pooh like you haven’t seen before.

Why You Should Watch It: A great film for the entire family as you’d imagine and perfect for a Sunday afternoon.

  1. The Grinch (9 th November UK release)

Staying within the family realms, there’s a new Grinch film coming to town. Produced by Illumination (Minions) and Universal Pictures, this year we’ll get to enjoy a new fully-animated film featuring Benedict Cumberbatch as the Grinch.

Why You Should Watch It: Another good one for the kids. Illumination have a pretty good track-record so it’s a treat for the eyes as well.

  1. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (16 th November UK release)

Harry Potter fans will certainly have this on their radar already. Two years after the release of the first Fantastic Beasts is too long a wait for such a high-profile sequel but it looks so good. We’re back in Hogwarts and a storm is brewing. Plus Jude Law as a young Dumbledore? Very intriguing!

Why You Should Watch It: For all those Harry Potter fans who haven’t found closure and because your Harry Potter-loving spouse/partner/friend has asked you to. Unless you’re the one doing the asking, in which case you don’t really need any more reasons.

  1. Mary Poppins Returns (21 st December UK release)

This teaser trailer gives us goosebumps. More than five decades after the original film, Disney has produced a sequel. This may be the longest ever gap between sequels, but it’s a great opportunity for younger generations to get acquainted with this perennial character, played by Emily Blunt this time round. Hamilton scribe and muso Lin-Manuel Miranda also steps in time as the chim-chim-cher-ee sweep.

Why You Should Watch It: The cast is nothing but impressive and it’s an excellent choice, especially in time for Christmas.

  1. Bohemian Rhapsody (28 th December UK release)

(Trailer not released yet)

Will Rami Malek manage to do the impossible and convey a good-enough portrayal of the legendary Freddie Mercury? We hope so. We’re definitely keeping an eye out for more details about this ambitious biopic.

Why You Should Watch It: You’re thinking the same as us.

Which of these films are you looking forward to watching and did we miss any from our list? Let us know on Facebook or Instagram. Happy watching!

Lots of brands are pulling video production in house. On paper, it sounds efficient but in practice? We’re seeing a different story. Here’s what often gets overlooked. You’re Hiring Individuals - Not a Creative Team Once you factor in salaries, kit, software and overheads, most businesses end up with one or two junior to mid creatives. Talented, yes. But limited in scope. An agency gives you directors, animators, writers, cinematographers, strategists… activated only when you need them. Creativity Gets Stuck In house teams work on the same brand day in, day out. Agencies work across sectors, styles and problems and that cross pollination is where the best ideas come from. Retention Gets Hard and Expensive Strong creatives crave variety and progression. Small teams can’t always offer it, and when one person leaves, the whole system wobbles. Replacing technical talent is costly and the “savings” of in housing disappear fast. Who’s Challenging the Brief? Executing a brief is one thing. Challenging it is another. You should have someone asking, “Is this the right format?” or “What if we did it differently?”. That’s where outside perspective becomes invaluable.

When Euronics came to us with a brief, it was a good one: take a true story about an extraordinary delivery and turn it into something worth watching. The Brief Joe, a Euronics delivery agent, had been tasked with getting a chest freezer to a customer in rural Wales. The road ran out. He carried on anyway, on foot, through fields, across rivers and over hills. The customer was delighted. The story deserved to be told. Euronics asked us to produce a short comedic video retelling that journey. The challenge was finding the right visual language to match the scale of the tale. The Concept We pitched several approaches centred on a comic-book aesthetic, bold, energetic and a little tongue-in-cheek. It felt like the right fit: a story that was equal parts heroic and absurd, told in a style that leaned into both. The concept paired real interview footage of Joe with AI-generated visuals to bring his journey to life. Where a traditional shoot would have required location days across Welsh countryside, generative AI gave us the tools to illustrate the story scene by scene. Creative Wrangling We filmed Joe against a studio blue backdrop, letting him tell the story in his own words. His delivery did a lot of the heavy lifting (puns intended!), dry, matter-of-fact and quietly brilliant. The AI-generated visuals were built around detailed multi-angle reference sheets for Joe, the Euronics van and the chest freezer.
